WE WANT SCHOOL TO BE THEIR HAPPY PLACE.
When they're moved from school to school so frequently, it's easy for foster youth to fly under the radar. We partner with school districts and colleges to help them get the resources and support they need to thrive in school.
We are proud of our relationships with community college across Silicon Valley. Pivotal coaches partner with staff in key departments such as the Educational Opportunity Program, Financial Aid, and Enrollment Offices. Together, we work to create the best possible campus climate for foster youth to feel welcome, find the help they need, and ultimately enjoy their college experience.
Whenever possible, we connect our scholars to their university's Guardian Scholars Program, an on-campus program designed to provide comprehensive support services specifically created for former and current foster youth.
Our collaborations with San Jose State, CSU East Bay, and San Francisco State allow us to recruit Master's in Social Work interns who serve as Pivotal high school coaches. This internship program - known as Emerging Scholars - is widely respected by professors in graduate schools of social work.
We partner with school districts to better serve the foster youth enrolled in their high schools. We learn about the extent of services they can offer students, and we step up to fill any gaps. In some cases, schools invite our well-respected coaches to hold office space on campus. This makes our coaches highly accessible to our scholars, and a resource for teachers and staff on the topics of trauma-informed care and foster youth needs.
County Office of Education
We hold a close partnership with the Santa Clara and San Mateo County Offices of Education, Foster Youth Services Coordinating Programs. They facilitate our access to school records of young people in care so that we can assess their needs and reach out to them to offer our help. Working together, we improve academic performance and personal achievement of all young people in foster care.
