At Pivotal, we know that with the right support and resources, our scholars can accomplish anything they want. But it can sometimes be hard for a young person to know what their options are for the future. This can be particularly true for young people from foster care who may not have access to a family member to help them research and learn about potential careers. To help showcase some of the professional paths that might be open to them, our corporate partners have stepped up to host Pivotal Career Days where Pivotal scholars spend a day at the office of one of our partners, understanding what the company does, learning more about career pathways, and meeting people working in different fields. 

Comerica, Harmonic, Equinix, and Excite Credit Union have all hosted career days in the past few months, allowing our scholars to tour their facilities, learn about the different jobs at each company, and network with professionals to learn what their educational and professional paths looked like. 

At Comerica, scholars explored the many career pathways within banking, from customer service to corporate leadership. 

“Attending Pivotal’s Career Day with Comerica was a great summer experience. We got to see how different parts of the bank work, like marketing and small business partnerships. Hearing from employees who started as tellers and worked their way up was really inspiring.”

Nyice, whose career interests range from nursing to law, joined a Career Day with Harmonic.  

“I honestly didn’t know what to expect. I thought it might be a room full of people just talking at us like a class lecture. I was glad I was wrong and even more glad I decided to join on my school vacation day. It was eye-opening to hear Tim, their General Counsel, share his career journey — what it took to get there and how his path changed along the way.”

The Equinix immersive Career Day gave scholars a behind-the-scenes look at the world of digital infrastructure and the people who power it.

At Excite Credit Union, scholars learned about the importance of credit and explored career opportunities within the financial sector.  

“It felt pretty fancy. We had our workshop in the boardroom! One of the best parts was a scavenger hunt around the office to meet different Excite team members. I was nervous at first, but everyone was super friendly and welcoming. It was fun.”
